Education and Demonstration of Garlic Biopesticide (Allium sativum L.) Preparation as an Effort to Strengthen Environmental Literacy among Junior High School Students

Abstract

This service activity aims to increase the understanding of junior high school students about garlic-based biopesticides as an environmentally friendly pest control alternative. The activity was held on June 9, 2026 at Al-Azhar Islamic Junior High School 48 Samarinda involving 47 8th grade students. The method used is demonstration-based education with one-group pretest-posttest design evaluation. Activities include pre-test, material delivery, demonstration of garlic biopesticide making, questions and answers, and post-test. The results of the evaluation showed an increase in positive responses in all indicators, with  a post-test achievement of 100%. This activity indicates that simple demonstrations based on natural materials can strengthen students' initial understanding of biopesticides and environmental literacy.
